For homework your student was to check our blog! Please be sure to follow our blog or to add it to your favorites list so you can check it often.
If you and your student have checked our blog please write in their agenda (or HW sheet since the agendas are now back ordered) "we checked the blog" and your signature under where they copied the website. I will check their agendas, like I do everyday, to see if this is written.
Each student that completes this will earn 2 dragon dollars tomorrow :)
Can't believe we have almost made it through the first week!!!!

Updated Grading Information
Elementary Report Cards
WCPSS uses
standards-based grading for report cards that are provided at the end of each
quarter (nine weeks) of instruction. The purpose of the report card is to
inform students and parents about a student’s performance on the grade level
standards in all content areas.
Starting in the 2013-14
school year, WCPSS will not use 3* for the elementary
standards-based report cards. Student performance will be shown with
levels of 1 to 4 to indicate whether the student has met the expectations set
by the state in the Standard Course of Study and to indicate whether the
student has the necessary skills and concepts to be successful in the next
quarter or next grade. The descriptors for each level have been aligned to the
expectations of the new Standard Course of Study (Common Core State Standards and Essential Skills) for all
content areas.

First day math activity
We created a bar graph of our birthdays. Just a fun "get to know you" activity for our first day of school!!
A little information about Ms. Pyburn
Dear Parents and Students,
Hi everyone! I hope you are ready for an exciting year in 3rd grade. This is my third year teaching 3rd grade at Douglas Elementary. I cannot wait to get to know all my students and parents this year.
Here is a little information about me: My undergraduate degree was from Meredith College in Psychology. I then traveled to Los Angeles, CA to gain my Master’s in Psychology at Pepperdine University. A few years ago I completed the MAT (Master’s of Arts in Teaching) at N.C. State. During my studies at Meredith and Pepperdine I worked with children with autism. Upon returning to NC from CA, I continued my work with children with autism at the Mariposa School. Besides living in CA for school, I am a Raleigh native. I personally attended a magnet elementary school (Washington) and middle school (Martin) and finished high school at Broughton.
I personally love to travel, go to the beach, watch movies, go hiking, spend time with friends, and play with my cat Bob. My family lives in Raleigh and we spend lots of time together. My mom is even a retired (just this year) 4th grade teacher!!
I cannot wait for this year to get going and I am looking forward to getting to know each of you!
Your 3rd grade teacher,
Carol Ann Pyburn

What a Wonderful First Day
I hope your student had as much fun as I did today!!!! The day just flew by. I am so fortunate to have each of your children in my class! Thank you parents for ALL the supplies that you have already sent in. I really appreciate all the extra items that were sent in too!!!
A few notes:
Your student has homework tonight. They need to read 20 minutes and fill out their reading log. If they have not turned in supplies or signed forms please be sure to get those in as soon as you can.
Also inside their HW folder you will find a note sent home from the principal. Please read this carefully and let me know if you have any questions.
YAYYYYYYY to the best first day ever :)
